First Time I Ever...

I decided it has been a little bit since I've wrote a new blog, and well since I'm writing a new blog in August I wanted to do an entirely new segment called, "First Time I Ever."  This segment will consist of me explaining my experience of eating whatever it is I ever ate for the first time ever.  I figure I'll do this every Monday, and for today, I'll let you know how my first time I ever ate pho went.  So with that, on to the show.

Ahhh…pho, who doesn't like a big brothy delicious bowl of goodness with meats, noodles, and veggies.  I guess the first time I had pho was in Philadelphia in 99.  Still in high school, still young wild and free; and food to me was good, but never as important as it is to me now.  Growing up in a Chinese restaurant, I was so sick and tired of eating Asian food at this point, but pho was different.  It reminded me of something that I never had before, and all these flavors and spices were just amazing.

However, I ate pho like an idiot as a child.  I hate herbs as a kid.  I hate spices, I hate the way anything that wasn't to my liking tasted.  I was such a novice eating pho.  I took this vibrant delicious noodle soup dish and just demolished the likes of it.  I added and not added things that needed to be added.  Sriracha, hoison, bean sprouts, and jalapeño.  This is all okay to add, but I ate it like an idiot and just added things without even trying the damn soup; oh, and herbs, no Thai basil for me, so stupid.  Anyway lets go back to that first spoonful.

I still remember my very first spoonful.  Soup, rare steak, and a little onion.  That first bite was just amazing.  I muddled that clear soup with hoison sauce and sriracha, but it gave me this deep and spicy spoonful.  The meat was cooked and so tender and that bite just bit right back.  I could taste everything, spicy, salty, rich, and just a hint of sour due to that squeeze of lime.  It was this amazing amalgamation of flavor and definitely sensory overload.  Now I knew why this dish was so famous and popular, across the sea.  It was everything you want in a bite of food and was just amazing.

I'll always remember my first time I ever ate pho, and I may eat it a little differently now, but that first time will be forever ingrained in my memory.  Just so you know, how I eat pho now goes like this.  I start with tearing all of my Thai basil and place them in my soup.  I skip the jalapeño and bean sprouts, and add a touch of black pepper and sriracha, just a touch.  I take that first slurp from my spoon of that amazing full body soup, and a little piece of that basil, and all I can taste is this rich and pepper soup from the basil and it's so so so good.

Ah, my first memory of pho…great.

Well, until next time…watch some Doug Funnie and have a clue of my first experience for my next food.  It's a sandwich.

All we do is LIN LIN LIN!!

Lately my mind has been on this a lot.  And no not about Jeremy Lin, I don't swing that way, and I'm a Sixers fan.  However I guess where I'm going with this is that I seem to be doing more Asian-y things nowadays.  I don't know if that's technically a bad thing, but just weird for me.  I've always considered myself kind of a twinky.  Yellow on the outside, but white on the inside.  It's weird, I haven't really acted my own way.  And well, most Asian people don't like me.  I guess, cause I can't relate with them.

I don't know, I guess I don't like a lot of them as well.  I believe a ton of them are not very nice.  However, like Dave has said, every race has mean people.  I don't know, maybe cause more of them has been awfully mean to me.  Stupid jerk Asians.  Well anyway, so here I am, trying to find a good ramen joint and all I had to choose from was pho.  I'm cool with that, but what I really think, is that we need more of these kinds of places in Jersey.  However what I think can fill a book.  So until I open one of these places, I really can't say squat.  So whoever is a multimillionaire and wants to steal this idea...don't you cheating son of a gun...haha just kidding.

You know what would be neat?  Customizing cars.  I've been watching this show called Street Customs, it's about West Coast Custom's shop.  I don't know what it is, but metal cutting, fabricating, engineering, and all that good stuff that makes a car run is awesome.  I wish life could be like this.  I would love to hire all my friends, and start creating and customizing cars.  I'm watching a 1955 Ford F-100 being create customized and prepped.  And this thing is a beauty and a beast at the same time.  I kinda want one now.  Man that would be the life no?

So yeah, something about being more Asian.  I think I'm getting back into my roots.  Hahahaha...whatever, take a look at the video below.  It's awesome...watch the end.  That thing is mean...and it's an automatic.

10 Greatest Scents...EVER!!

I've been waking up lately smelling some of the best things ever for breakfast.  Lately I've been imagining what would life be like without the sense of smell.  I tell you what it would definitely stink.  Hahaha, no pun intended.  There are just somethings I love smelling, and this list will show you what I love most.  It's my top 10 of the best smelling things ever!  So lets let that list begin.

10.  COFFEE

Ahhh...it's so comforting, this smell that is so intoxicating.  This is all an opinion people, however the simple fact is, waking up to this is amazing.  The aroma is so so so delicious.  However, I never said that the taste was awesome.  By frankly, sometimes too much coffee makes me sick, but the aroma is so lovely. It just had to be on this list for me.  Feels like home, nothing like the smell of fresh brewed coffee.

9.  FRESH BAKED CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

Choco-chip cookies...my mouth is watering just thinking about it.  It's so comforting, what else would remind you of a warm cozy home like fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.  Just thinking about it reminds me of my childhood.  Getting a large glass of milk, taking a bite of that cookie, then having that long chocolate strand, ripping away with the cookie and from your mouth, then finally landing on your cheek.  It screams best scent ever.  Oooohhhh soooo good.

8.  WISTERIA FLOWERS/VINE/TREE

What is it about this so sweet smelling trees.  You know what it is?  It reminds me so much of the warmer season ahead, the sweet fragrance, just makes me so happy, and it makes me realize that spring is right around the corner.  Quite pleasant indeed.  You will smell them when driving down the street during the spring, you can't miss the sweet sweet smell.  Awesome.

7. ROASTED TURKEY

I just love the smell of turkey roasting in the oven.  This reminds me of the holidays.  Such a happy time, and such a great place.  It's puts a smile on my face, the mix of rosemary, thyme, and sage, then the butter gliding off of the roasted turkey.  Oh my god, I want turkey now.  Thank goodness I still have more from Thanksgiving.  Woo too turkey.

6. HAM

See the above, they go hand in hand really.  Ahh...more stuff leftover from Turkey Day.

5.  MANGOS

Ugghhh...one of the sexiest fruits out there.  The aroma is crazy, and it just makes me want it more and more.  It's so good.  I love, love, love the smell of mangos.  You can just taste the tartiness that is going to happen.  Hmm...so good.

4. FRESH BAKED OUT OF THE OVEN BREAD

Bread, real, fresh baked, artisan bread.  Coming out of a brick fire oven.  It is amazing, if you have never smelled fresh baked bread before.  Go to your local bakery at 5 in the morning, and just take a waft of that as it comes out of the oven, and being placed into the bins for the day.  It's so good, I just want one now thinking about it.  Nothing beats fresh baked bread...well except for the next number.

3.  PHO

Maybe it's because I have been craving this lately, but man the smell of pho and the aroma of the thai basil, chili, and all the other ingredients make this a want.  It's very high on the list, because by frankly, it's what I want most right now.  God, I can go for a bowl of pho, right about now, with all that mmm...mmm...goodness.  *Sigh*

2. GRILLED STEAK

What is it about the smell of grilled beef on so enticing?  Is it the waft of the drippings onto the charcoal?  Is it the thought of that succulent melt in your mouth beef?  That smell is amazing really.  I walked passed a steakhouse tonight, and all I can sense is the way it would've tasted.  It smelled divine, and all I wanted was a bite...that's it.  Hmm...steak.

And the number 1 greatest smell on the face of the earth to me is....

1.  BACON

Everything about bacon is amazing.  It makes ever dish so much better.  I know, I know, some people hate this stuff.  I won't hate on them.  I just think you're missing out on one of god's tastiest creations.  ^___^  Bacon has a special place in my heart, it literally has a place in my heart seriously.  It's...I don't know, I can't describe it in words, but if I had to try...mind blowing.  Thank you to whoever created the briny smoked goodness.  MMM...bacon...
