Used Game Hoopla

I don't know about you, but I'm not extremely rich.  I got some money, but you definitely can't call me moneybags yet.  I have a ton of hobbies, and well.  One of that hobby consist of playing video games sometimes.  Here's my thing though.  I don't spend enough time with video games to think that spending $60 for a brand new game with almost zero replay value is worth it.  So i enjoy waiting and getting a used copy of a video game.  Is that bad?  Is that something that should be frowned upon?  I don't think it should.  However, the company that I love most is thinking, fuck customers.  They're rich enough, they'll pay full prices.  Why the hell wouldn't they?  Man Sony, you're a bunch of jerks.

Okay, so where am I really going with this?  This is it here, Sony has patent an idea where that for every game that enters a systems, it specifically catered to that system only.  That seems pretty messed up.  How are companies like Gamestop, EB Games, or even my local shop...Bandits suppose to survive?  Well it looks like that doesn't matter to Sony.  I don't know Sony's plan, and I honestly, if Sony is going the route that I think they might, I don't think I can follow Sony into that future endeavor.  God damn it...do I really have to follow Micro$oft?  I guess there is always Nintendo, but you know, how well will that end?

There has been a lot of info going around though.  They've only patent the idea, it hasn't really gone into affect.  No one knows what Sony is thinking, they wouldn't do it, it be suicide, blah blah blah.  I think it's all true.  I believe this is a suicide step.  I think it's idiotic and pathetic on Sony's end.  You preach about it being all about the consumer.  Yet you're taking this away from us.  Sony's purest rebuttal could be, "In such a scheme where the electronic content is bought and sold in the second-hand markets or the like, the sales proceeds resulting therefrom are not redistributed to the developers," a line from their patent filing.  Basically all it really is this...if we don't do this, the developers lose money, this is a way for the developers to continue and maintain the money that they deserve.  And while yes, I do agree with this, at the same time I really don't.  When a game is purchased from a consumer, whatever that consumer wants to do with their product should be allowed, if they want to sell it back to a company, i.e. Gamestop, or Bandits, then said person has that right, and there shouldn't be any qualms about it.  However, I do believe that corporate greed is getting the best of these companies.  How is it unfair?  I don't understand it, if I wait, for a used copy, and you see no residuals from that used copy, how is that a problem?  You've already seen 100% return off the original purchase.  I don't see why we should be punished for waiting and getting a hand-me-down of a game.  The video game industry is a billion dollar industry.  This is why I don't play as many games as I use to.  I remember buying PS1 and PS2 games for 50 dollars brand now, now I'm paying $60+ for a new game.  That's just plain crazy, seriously.

Never thought I would see this day.  I'm still praying that I won't see this day.  However this is the reality of it all.  If we do live in a world where I can't purchase second hand games, I guess you can call out of this next gen console war.  Then again, I always think to myself, "NEW MAD CATZ CONSOLE HACKER +!!!"  "PLAY USED GAMES LIKE NEW NOW!!!!  WWWWHHHAAAATTTT!!!"

Yeah, that's where it's really leading too.  I can just see the hellacious time it's going to be if you are one of the first purchasers of a PS4, and you buy a shit ton of games, then you get your PS4 stolen.  Then what?  You have to buy all new games that you no longer can play with you new PS4?  God this is redundant and idiotic on Sony's end.  I loved Sony's systems, please don't make me jump ship guys, I honestly don't think I can stomach that...I swear, if you do.  I'm straight going to M$.  Yeah I said it, cause yes, computers have their own problems too...jesus.

Sometimes when you least expect it, you realized that someone loved you, and that means someone can love you again; and that will make you smile. ~Homer Simpson

So I doing something a little different, I'm putting a pic up of one of my all time heroes.  Whether they are real or not doesn't matter.  Let's see if you know who it is or not.  Take a look...have a guess...have a blast.  The first one is going to be easy.  Answers will be revealed on the next blog.

It's a gimme folks.
